What It Looks Like to Work with a Christian Business Coach (Step-by-Step)

Have you ever felt like God is calling you into something more… but you’re not sure what the next step looks like? You know you have a calling on your business that you can’t seem to narrow down and move forward with. Something seems to be missing from your business life but you’re not quite sure what it is. A Christian business coach serves as a Spirit-led partnership to help you align your faith with your business decisions. Here’s a simple look at what it actually looks like to work with a Christian business coach, step by step.

Why Christian Coaching Matters

Proverbs 15:22 states “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.”

God has designed us to rely upon one another and commune with each other. We are to lift each other up and work with one another. A coach is someone who can purposely walk alongside you in your business with a perspective that others in your community may not be able to offer.

Many people wonder is Christian coaching biblical? This is not a deep dive post on that topic but I will address a few points of what it is versus what it is not.

  • It is not a grift or scam. There are many businesses that are Christian in nature (Christian bookstores) or have Christian founders (Hello, Chic-fil-a!) A Christian life and business coach serves to help you reach your goals within your business and is paid for their work just like any one else.
  • Is is not a replacement for Christian community. There are plenty of Christians who seek therapy or other mentorship outside of their church community. Coaches are in a similar realm but offer different advantages for each individual based on what they need in their season of life.
  • It is not solely about helping you make more money. As Christians, we have the promise of eternal riches in heaven (1 Peter 1:4), and our work on Earth goes beyond monetary reward—a Christian life and business coach can help you keep that focus.
“And into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.” – 1 Peter 1:4
  • It is working with someone who shares in Christian values. In a secular culture, it can be difficult to express your moral choices when they go against what’s commonly accepted.
  • It is an opportunity to pray and delight in God’s presence with someone who is equipped to support you in a business setting. It can be refreshing to work with someone and know that God is present with you both.
  • It is a chance to get outside perspective, accountability and direction. Unlike friends or other business connections—who have their own lives—a coach is dedicated solely to helping you get to where you want to be.

Step 1: Clarity Call

Book a 30-minute clarity call. It’s important to determine if a coach is the right fit for you and your needs. During this time, you can share your vision for where you want coaching to take you and get a sense of whether the coach’s style aligns with yours.

Step 2: Prayer + Vision Setting

As with all things, we’ll begin by bringing God into the process. Once your first session is booked, you’ll receive a survey to help your coach understand your needs and your hopes for the future. This is a chance to go a little deeper, especially if there’s anything that wasn’t covered during the clarity call. It provides a strong starting point so you can dive right in during your first session.

Step 3: Ongoing Coaching Support and Encouragement

Coaching calls are typically held biweekly and will focus on strategy, mindset, and scripture-based guidance. After each session, you’ll receive an email summary to help you reflect, pray, and take action.

Coaching is only as effective as your level of engagement. Your coach won’t force you to do anything or take action for you—but they are here to guide, support, and encourage you. Between sessions, you may be given “homework” or a task to complete before the next call. If you find it challenging to follow through, that’s something valuable to bring into the next session. Growth is the goal—not perfection.

Step 4: Encouragement + Adjustments

To help you stay aligned, some coaches offer communication between sessions. We strive to help you pivot with peace, not pressure. Whether you’re facing a tough decision or simply need a reminder of what God spoke over your journey, this support is here to keep you grounded. You’re not expected to walk this path alone—guidance is available when you need it most. Our goal is to help you move forward with clarity and confidence.

Step 5: Celebrating Growth & Obedience

The journey is rooted in obedience, courage, and peace. Every win—especially the small ones—is worth celebrating.

For example, one client came to me unsure of how his relationship with God had drifted so far from where it once was. Through coaching and prayer, he began to uncover and address the deeper issues that were keeping him from God and from stepping into where he felt called to be. Watching his renewed connection with the Lord has been one of the most powerful reminders of why this work matters.

Is Christian Coaching Right for You?

You’ll gain greater clarity in your daily decisions and a confidence that positively impacts your business success. Where you once hesitated to take a leap, you’ll find yourself ready and willing to jump. Instead of seeing competitors as obstacles, you’ll view them as inspiration—pushing you to innovate and grow. Your dependence on God will deepen, and your trust in His guidance will increase.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own. God often brings people alongside us to sharpen, stretch, and support us. If you’re curious about what coaching could look like for your journey, I’d love to invite you to a free clarity call. Together, let’s discover where God is leading you.
